Privacy Policy

étude (“étude”, “we”, “us”) is a mobile exam-preparation app operated by Waltersam Technologies. This policy applies to the étude mobile app and this website. If you have questions, contact us at support@waltersamtechnologies.com.

We collect the following information to create and run your account:

• Account details — your first and last name, and an email address and/or phone number used to sign in. Your password is stored only as a secure hash, never in plain text.
• Profile details — an optional profile photo (avatar), your timezone, and your preferred channel for one-time codes (email or WhatsApp).
• Study data — your chosen programme and department, course enrolments, lesson progress and watch position, quiz and mock-exam attempts and scores, study streaks, daily activity, achievements, XP, and bookmarks.
• Device & notification data — push-notification tokens for the devices you sign in on, and your notification preferences.
• Authentication data — session (refresh) tokens, stored hashed, and short-lived one-time verification codes.

We do not collect payment card details on our servers, and we do not sell your personal data.

• To create your account and authenticate you securely.
• To deliver lessons, quizzes and mock exams, and to track your progress.
• To power streaks, the activity heatmap, achievements and XP, so you can see your consistency over time.
• To send you account, exam-result, streak-reminder, new-content and achievement notifications by push and/or email, according to your preferences.
• To respond to support requests and keep the service secure and reliable.

We use a small number of trusted third parties to operate étude. They process data only on our behalf:

• Resend — sends transactional and notification emails (e.g. verification codes, exam results). Receives your email address and message content.
• Expo (push notifications) — delivers push notifications to your device. Receives your device push token and notification content.
• Meta / WhatsApp Cloud API — delivers one-time codes by WhatsApp when you choose that channel. Receives your phone number and the code.
• Cloudflare R2 — stores profile photos you upload.
• Hosting & infrastructure — our database (PostgreSQL) and cache (Redis) providers store your account and study data so the service can function.

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account from the app, your account is deactivated and your progress, streaks and achievements become inaccessible. Some records may be retained where required for security, legal or record-keeping purposes. You can request permanent erasure by contacting us at support@waltersamtechnologies.com.

• Notifications— you can turn push and email notifications on or off per type in the app's settings.
• Access & correction — you can view and update your profile and study context in the app.
• Deletion — you can delete your account at any time. See our Data Deletion page.

étude is intended for students preparing for secondary and tertiary entrance exams. If you are under the age of majority in your country, please use étude with the involvement of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has provided us personal data without appropriate consent, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

We protect your data with industry-standard measures, including hashed passwords, hashed session tokens, encrypted connections, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
